Asuntos del Sur (ADS) began in December 2007 as a result of the initiative of a group of Latin American graduate students studying in Paris, France. ADS is an organization that seeks to generate informed debate around the issues pertinent to Latin America and seeks to share the wealth of experiences that occur throughout our continent. This is achieved through an online publication that creates spaces for dialogue and debate. The publication has a dynamic editorial line based on a "Challenge" or set of questions that are raised each month by an expert in the field.  Academics, politicians, social activists, fellow experts and students from various countries provide the responses to the monthly Challenge. Opportunities for dialogue organized by ADS have taken place in Latin America, Europe and North America.

Unlike newspapers or other similar portals, the core of our content is uploaded monthly, making the traffic of our site comparable to specialized magazines and academic journals. ADS atracts young policy makers and  businessmen, students of the social sciences, people working on behalf of international organizations and a broad range of individuals interested in Latin American Affairs.

ADS is currently sent directly to the inbox of a list of 60,000 people from Latin and North America, Europe and Asia. This list is mainly made of decision makers, government officials, businessmen, scholars, students and other actors with interests in the region. Visitors can also subscribe to receive our electornic version directly from our website free of charge.

ADS works with strategic partners at a number of organizations in Latin America, North America and Europe. Some of the alliances are basic, involving the exchange of data and content (Latinobarómetro, Expansiva, etc). Others, especially with educational institutions, go further and aim to cooperate in the organization of lectures and conferences (SIPA, Sciences Po). Alliances are also made with other publications to foster permanent spaces for shared publication with ADS (Americas Quarterly). ADS has partnered with PODER Magazine, a leading business and politics magazine for Latin America based in Miami, to administrate a blog focused on sparking debate about current political affairs in the region.

Our team is mainly made up of a diverse group of people from countries in Latin America but also a few call Europe or the United States their home. All of them either hold an advance graduate degree or are currently pursuing graduate education. All of them are at least bilingual and some of them speak up to five different languages. However, our main element in common, is the fact we all believe in making Latin America a better place through constant debate and exchange.
